5 Celebrity Dog Rescue Owners

5 Celebrity Dog Rescue Owners

August 26th is International Dog Day. It’s one of the best times of the year to welcome a new furry family member into your home.

There are thousands of loving dogs living in shelters across the country desperately awaiting the arrival of their forever family. If you are considering dog ownership; please check out your local Human Society.

And, as it turns out, the rich and famous love rescue dogs just as much as we do so we thought we'd share some heartwarming stories and photos with you that show that while expensive purebred, “designer” pups can certainly be adorable, the heart of a rescue dog is hard to beat.

1. After Jamie Lee Curtis introduced a puppy in need of adoption at the 2022 Oscars, John Travolta stepped in.

2. Tom Hardy was deeply impacted by his rescue dog, Woody, whom he called "a shining example of man's best friend."

3. Oprah Winfrey and Sadie

During her lifetime, Oprah Winfrey has given a forever home to more than 20 dogs, many of which have been rescues. She adopted her cocker spaniel, Sadie, in 2009 from a no-kill animal shelter called PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving) in Chicago.

Nothing makes me happier than being with my dogs,” Oprah once said. “Over the years I have felt the truest purest love – the love of God, really, I imagine that’s what God’s love feels like – is the love that comes from your dog.”

4. Drew Barrymore — Douglass

Much of her philanthropic efforts have been focused on animal welfare and promoting adopting rather than buying. She has adopted a number of dogs, pictured is Douglass.

5. George Clooney — Millie and Louie

Clooney adopted Basset Hound Millie as a companion for his other adopted dog— a Cocker Spaniel mix named Louie. The Academy Award-winning actor is a huge fan of rescue dogs. He even surprised his parents with a handicapped rescue dog named Nate on Christmas Eve in 2016.
